The New Performance Standard in ReBreather SCBA’s for First Responders
Problem Statement
With existing “open circuit” SCBA breathing systems, the amount of time the unit can be used is estimated on the workload of the user.
Typically a 30-minute open circuit
system with 10-minute reserve may be
exhausted in as little as 18 to 20 minutes due to deep, rapid breathing. Heavy
workloads or panic situations cause the user to breathe harder, thus further
reducing mission duration.
Since first responders are trained to begin their egress together, response logistics can be hampered by the different breathing and air consumption rates of each first responder, thus making it difficult to plan an emergency response.
The more individuals involved in an emergency response, the less accurate the
planning. And accuracy in planning is essential for safety and economy of effort.
Consider too that waste due to faulty planning is not only costly, but can also pose
serious injury and even death.
Advantage TACR
The closed circuit TACR provides the same breathing time for all users regardless of their breathing and consumption rates as defined for open circuit systems. The work time for a 120-minute TACR is 120 minutes with the 30-minute exit reserve. This holds true with the 240-minute TACR as well.
With the TACR, you can plan to perform tasks with the knowledge that the unit will provide the required user time.
